Important 'fun' time for young mental health carers

The school holiday program gives young mental health carers a safe break from caring responsibilities, reduces stress and isolation, and helps them connect with peers who understand. These fun and engaging programs aim to build confidence and coping skills through supportive activities.

Important Information

School Holiday Programs are funded by State or National Government and are subject to confirming funding eligibility including the young person’s home address.

  • School holiday programs using external activities and/or venues may require a specific venue permission/consent form completed to participate in the program.
  • If the young person has not received support from Helping Minds before (or within the last 6 months) a phone assessment will need to take place with the parent/guardian.
  • A consent form will need to be signed by both parents (this is required annually)
  • If the young person require medications throughout the day, they will be required to self-administer this.
  • External support workers are not allowed at the workshop.
  • All attendees require appropriate social and emotional skills to participate in a group environment
  • The young person must either have a family member or a friend living with mental health challenge
  • All our workshops have a maximum capacity to ensure our counsellors can provide adequate professional support for all young people attending.
  • To ensure fairness in attendance opportunities across the community, each young person can enrol in a maximum of 2 workshops per holiday period.
  • Positions on our programs are not guaranteed and are subject to conditions such as and not limited to, eligibility assessment, spaces available and attendance history.
  • Waitlists may apply for some programs.
